July Update, Comic News

Posted by houzatosis - 2 hours ago

I haven't done a news post since last year, so I will run through some updates as briefly as I can:

As of today, and assuming there aren't any additional changes to it, I have completed my work on HOTEL STORY Part Two, a 120+ page graphic novel. There is currently a Kickstarter pre-launch page set up, and we intend to launch the funding campaign later in the summer.

The writer on the book, Per Berg, recently worked as the artist on Vatican City, a comic mini-series by Mark Millar. I believe the main print run has just finished, but there will be a paperback version out in October

Back in March/April, I participated in the Newgrounds Jump! Comic Contest and was excited to learn that my submission Brutalist Brick: Film Buffs got third place!

I wanted to thank the judges for reviewing my work and for everyone that participated, there were lots of quality entries and new artists to follow. I hope to participate again if I've got enough time to work on something new.

I've had to sideline Mogao Blues a bit while HOTEL STORY was in production. I mentioned previously that Chapter One is completed, but I need to get the next chapters thumbnailed and get chapter two further along before I start getting the word out about it. There is talk of potentially coloring the project, but that is to be determined, but it would look something like this:

It's bad luck to talk too much about a project before it's ready, so I'll leave it at that.

As far as life updates. There's good and bad. I lost my father unexpectedly late last summer, and handling everything that followed as next of kin took a lot of wind out of my sails. There hasn't been a day where I'm not reminded of him and I hope he can rest peacefully.

I have taken more time to reflect on aspects of my own life, which I hope as someone in their mid 30's is enough time to have an effect. At the very least, trying to be slightly more outgoing and taking more risks.

That's about all the updates I can think of right now. Next news post will almost certainly be about the HOTEL STORY Part Two launch when it's ready, so look forward to that.
